Free Choice Film Review

Since this blog was open to choose any film we wanted to review, I decided to go with my favorite movie; Now and Then. When I began my search for a review for the film, I immediately found this one, written by Christopher Null, and could not have disagreed more with it. Not only does he make it clear in the beginning by saying he is probably not the best person to be reviewing this film, but he also makes the film out to be a joke.

Let me just start by saying I'm probably not the best person in the world to
be reviewing a film about the coming of age of four twelve-year old girls in
suburban America. I'm going to give it my best shot--just bear in mind who
you're dealing with here.

Why would you ever start a review saying that you probably should not be the one writing this review? It does not make any sense to me. Although he gives a brief, correct introduction to the characters in the movie, and summarizes the plot well, he goes on to say that the movie is corny.

If this sounds corny to you already, believe me, it's twice as corny on the
screen. Slathered in slapstick humor and lots of female anatomy jokes, Now And
Then quickly degenerates into an occasionally funny comedy with the heart of a
sappy melodrama about "growing up."
I strongly, strongly disagree with him when he says that this movie is corny. The humor in the movie would obviously be much harder for a male like himself to understand, which is exactly why he was correct when he stated at the beginning that he is not the right person to be reviewing this film. If you were to ask any girl that has seen this movie, I can almost 100% guarentee that they would say that it is now one of their favorite movies and that is one of those films that you could watch over and over and never get bored of it. I could agree with Christopher though when he claims that there really is no sense in the movie. This is true, the movie does not really serve a purpose, but that isn't necessarily a bad and negative thing. It is made for pure enjoyment and that is what most teen girls got out of it. I think that it is truly a shame that someone would not take anything positive out of this movie and would deliberately try to make it into some kind of wasteful joke. This movie is perfect for women of all ages and i definately think this man should have thought twice before reviewing a film that he himself even admitted wasn't right for him.

Katie-
Your writting style is really easy to read and follow. It was fun to read. I like how you aren't afraid to disagree with the critic. The movie sounds really good and yeah why would men try to understand it? Wahoo

Katie: I saw the post title and thought this was the film review you guys are supposed to do for Tuesday. Just to be sure -- this is the personal viewing blog, but you still need to view a film from one of the lists we talked about in class and write that review for Tuesday.
